The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has once again started a strict implementation of a ban on the manufacture, use, sale, transportation, handling, and storage of single-use plastic, to make Mumbai plastic-free.
In its fresh crackdown which began yesterday, the civic body seized 87 kilograms of single-use plastic on the first day of its drive against the prohibited item and collected fines worth 2.95 lakh rupees.
The civic body told that the drive was undertaken yesterday as per the environment department’s directive in coordination with the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and police.
